“Can’t Deliver An Audience” — Chris Wallace’s New CNN Show Flops In Debut

Chris Wallace has a new show on CNN and HBO Max titled “Who’s Talking to Chris Wallace.”

The first show consisted of interviews with multiple celebrities and former Supreme Court Justice Stephen Breyer.

The Hill reported:

Longtime cable news anchor and pundit Chris Wallace is stepping outside the realm of politics with the debut of a new show that will air for the first time Sunday evening on CNN.

The first installation of “Who’s Talking to Chris Wallace” features interviews with celebrities Tyler Perry and Shania Twain as well as former Supreme Court Justice Stephen Breyer.

As part of the new show’s rollout, Wallace also interviewed former professional baseball player-turned-business mogul Alex Rodriguez, a conversation which will air in the coming weeks.

The ratings for the show bombed.

There were only 401,000 viewers – 29% below the average. It got even worse among those aged 25 to 54 — ratings for that group were 64% below the average.

Fox News’ ‘Sunday Night in America’ with Trey Gowdy crushed Chris Wallace’s show with 1.3 million viewers tuning in.

The Washington Examiner reported:

A new show hosted by former Fox News host and current CNN host Chris Wallace fell flat in its debut.

Nielsen Media Research tracked ratings for Wallace’s show, Who’s Talking to Chris Wallace, which debuted on CNN Sunday. The ratings show that there were 401,000 viewers, down 29% from the average, and 44,000 among those aged 25 to 54, down 64% from the average.

Sunday Night in America with Trey Gowdy, a long-standing Fox News program that aired at the same time as Wallace’s, received 1.3 million viewers and 78,000 viewers aged 25 to 54.

A source for CNN defended Chris Wallace.

The New York Post reported:

When reached by The Post, a network source defended Wallace, noting that the show is available to viewers on the streaming platform HBO Max three days before it airs on CNN and thus “doesn’t follow a typical linear distribution model so its success won’t be determined like one.”

“Live domestic TV viewers represent only a fraction of its intended audience,” the source said.

But the problem is obviously Chris Wallace.

One commentator noted:

It appears that Chris Wallace can’t deliver an audience. We can look back and realize Fox delivered an audience to him, and the best he did, was not to blow it! https://t.co/5slK1YdsoU

It’s been downhill for Chris Wallace since he left Fox News.
