“Violent crime is surging in Louisiana, woke leaders blame the police, I blame the criminals. A mom should not have to look over her shoulder when she is pumping gas. I voted against the early release for violent criminals and I oppose defunding the police. Look if you hate cops just because their cops the next time you get in trouble call a crackhead.“
Crime is on the rise in New Orleans as staffing at the New Orleans Police Department hits a 70-year-low.
WWLTV reported:
The Metropolitan Crime Commission found Homicides are up 142%, shootings are up 98%, carjackings are up 203% and armed robberies are up 27% in New Orleans since 2019.
…
He said more people are being shot per incident.
“A total of 343 shooting incidents this year but there were 433 shooting victims this year,” Goyeneche said. “Right now the staffing levels of the New Orleans Police Department are at a 70-year low, these numbers are reflective of the fact, that the police department is grossly understaffed.”
In just nine months of 2022 New Orleans surpassed the number of homicides it had in 2020.
As of September 5th, New Orleans saw 205 homicides.
Fox8Live reported:
A violent Labor Day weekend and a fatal double shooting Tuesday afternoon (Sept. 6) have pushed New Orleans’ homicide count beyond the total number recorded in 2020.
There have been 205 homicides in New Orleans so far this year according to the latest data from the Metropolitan Crime Commission (MCC). There were 201 homicides in all of 2020. Last year, as of September 5, there were 139 homicides reported.
Within 24 hours of Labor Day, the NOPD responded to five carjackings, at least four armed robberies, and five shootings–leaving three dead. The NOPD reports homicides differently than the MCC, distinguishing between homicides and murders. As of Sept. 6, the NOPD reports 203 homicides and 193 murders.
If crime stays on this track, President of the MCC Rafael Goyeneche said New Orleans could surpass the total number of homicides in 2021– which clocked in at 218– by the end of September.
