Speculation Grows That Dem Senator Will Switch Parties Or Become Independent

Speculation Grows That Dem Senator Will Switch Parties Or Become Independent

Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell has begun cozying up to Democrat Senator Kyrsten Sinema.

During an event at the University of Kentucky, McConnell heaped praise on Sinema for her displays of bipartisanship.

Conservative Brief reported:

The forecast came on the heels of an event attended by both Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.) and Sen. Kyrsten Sinema, the moderate Arizona Democrat who has regularly been criticized by her party for not going along lockstep with key pieces of spending legislation and plans to ditch the filibuster.

During the event, which was held at the University of Kentucky in Louisville earlier this week, McConnell praised Sinema for her frequent displays of bipartisanship during an event at the McConnell Center during which he claimed she had been the “most effective first-term senator” he has seen during his Senate career, The Western Journal reported.

Sinema also showed support for McConnell – saying the two “have forged a friendship.”

The Western Journal reported:

Sinema spoke highly of McConnell on his home turf.

“Despite our apparent differences, Sen. McConnell and I have forged a friendship, one that is rooted in our commonalities, including our pragmatic approach to legislating, our respect for the Senate as an institution,” she said.

This has led to speculation that Sinema might end up switching parties or becoming independent before 2024.

The Hill reported:

McConnell’s treatment of Sinema raises questions about whether she might be persuaded to switch parties or change her affiliation to independent ahead of her 2024 Senate reelection race, when she could face a primary challenge from Rep. Ruben Gallego (Ariz.) or another liberal Democrat.

Sinema ruled out the idea of switching parties last year, however.

Former top Trump political adviser Steve Bannon is also a believer that this can happen – saying in a GETTR post: “watch her switch parties or go ‘independent’ and caucus with the Majority.”

GETTR:

Senator Sinema is looking downrange at the ‘24 cycle when the Republicans will only increase the majority they win in the Senate in ‘22 …the ‘24 cycle is that strong — watch her switch parties or go ‘independent’ and caucus with the Majority…

Will Sinema leave the Democrat party?
