A cable bridge has collapsed in Western India plunging hundreds of people into the river below killing at least 60 with others feared injured or killed. The bridge was recently reopened after renovations.
BBC shares, “Reports say as many as 400 people were on the structure at the time. Authorities said rescue efforts were under way.It comes just days after the bridge was reopened following repairs.”

At least 60 people have died after a cable bridge collapsed in Gujarat on Sunday evening, state minister Brijesh Merja said. The incident took place on the Machhu river in Morbi district.
Several people fell in the river after the bridge collapsed on Sunday. Rescue operations are presently underway. The administration, with the help of locals, are engaged in rescuing people who fell in the river after the bridge collapse.
As per initial reports, the cable bridge was restarted five days ago after renovation.
Gujarat Chief Minister Bhupendra Pate has announced that he is cancelling all his engagements for today and will be leaving for Morbi.
Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi shared, “I am deeply saddened by the tragedy at Morbi. Talked to Gujarat Chief Minister Shri @Bhupendrapbjp and other officials about this. Relief and rescue operations are going on in full swing and all necessary assistance is being provided to the affected.”
