Steny Hoyer Retires From Leadership After Republicans Take Control of the House

US House Majority Leader Steny Hoyer will step down from his leadership role after the Republicans took control of the House of Representatives.

Hoyer, who will remain in Congress after winning reelection, will back Hakeem Jeffries to lead the Democrats, AP reported.

“I have decided not to seek elected leadership in the 118th Congress – it is time for me to continue my service in a different role. I intend to return to the Appropriations Committee to continue my work focusing on education, health care, and our workers.” Hoyer said on Thursday.

Hoyer said he’s proud of the role he played in destroying the country.

“I am proud of the role I have played over the last four decades to make our country a more perfect & inclusive union & ensure that our workers & families can #MakeItInAmerica. I am profoundly grateful to my constituents and to my colleagues for giving me this opportunity.” he said.

“I look forward to serving as a resource to our leadership team, and to our entire Caucus in whatever capacity I can best be of assistance as we move forward together to address the nation’s challenges & pursue the policies that will build a stronger, fairer, & more just America.” Hoyer said.

Speaker Pelosi on Thursday also announced she is retiring from leadership.

“Now we must move boldly into the future,” Pelosi said. “The hour has come for a new generation,” Pelosi said.

“With great confidence in our caucus, I will not seek re-election to Democratic leadership in the next Congress,” she said.

House Democrats are promoting the younger (and more radical) members to leadership positions.

Steny Hoyer is 83 years old.

Nancy Pelosi is 82 years old.
