Exploring the Performance and Features of the Tata Nexon

The compact SUV segment is growing in India, and Tata Nexon lured customers with its unique style, safety, and performance.

Though launched quite some time back, the Nexon has been upgraded several times since then, becoming one of the most sought-after options by Indian customers looking for a reliable, compact SUV boasting features and affordability.

But what makes it so famous? Read on to get an elaborative view of its design, performance, features, and other things to discover about the Tata Nexon.

Design & Aesthetics

Let’s face it—first impressions count. When you spot the Tata Nexon on the road, it’s difficult to overlook its aggressive and dynamic look. Tata Motors has done a fantastic job of blending ruggedness with urban chic. The Impact design language gives the Nexon a unique look that stands out from the crowd.

What Stands Out?

Front Fascia: The Nexon sports a bold grille with the signature tri-arrow motif, flanked by sleek LED DRLs (Daytime Running Lights). The headlamps are sharp and aggressive, giving it a futuristic vibe.
Side Profile: The coupe-like sloping roofline is a standout feature, adding to its sporty look. The contrasting roof colours and stylish alloy wheels give it a premium feel.
Rear Design: The Y-shaped LED tail lamps are eye-catching, and the chunky bumper adds to its SUV appeal.

Comfort & Space

A car might look great from the outside, but comfort inside is where it wins hearts. The Tata Nexon does not disappoint in this department.

Spacious and Comfortable

Cabin Space: The Nexon offers ample legroom and headroom for both front and rear passengers. Even taller individuals will find it comfortable on long drives.
Seats: The seats are well-cushioned and provide good support. The leatherette upholstery in higher variants adds a touch of luxury.
Boot Space: With 321 litres of boot space, packing for weekend getaways is a breeze. You can expand it further by folding the rear seats.

Performance & Driving Experience

The Tata Nexon comes with two engine options and three fuel variants:

1.2L Turbocharged Revotron Petrol Engine

Power: 118 bhp

Torque: 170 Nm

1.5L Turbocharged Revotorq Diesel Engine

Power: 113 bhp

Torque: 260 Nm

1.2L Turbocharged Revotorq Petrol + CNG Engine

Power: 98.59 bhp (CNG mode)

Torque: 170 Nm (CNG mode)

Both engines are BS6 compliant and are mated to either a 6-speed manual transmission or a 6-speed AMT (Automated Manual Transmission). The petrol engine also gets a 5-speed manual gearbox on lower trims and a DCA transmission on the top-spec trims.

Driving Modes

The Nexon offers three driving modes—Eco, City, and Sport.

Eco Mode is excellent for maximising fuel efficiency.
City Mode balances performance and mileage for daily commutes.
Sport Mode unleashes the car’s full power, making it super fun to drive on highways.

Mileage & Fuel Efficiency

Fuel efficiency is a significant factor for Indian car buyers, and the Nexon delivers well here, too.

Petrol Variant: Offers an average mileage of 17.44 km/l under mixed driving conditions.
Diesel Variant: The diesel is more frugal, offering around 21-24 km/l, which is excellent for long-distance travellers.
CNG Variant: The Manual CNG variant provides 24.0 km/kg fuel efficiency.

The real-world mileage depends on driving habits, road conditions, and load, but overall, the Nexon is easy on the pocket regarding fuel.

Technology & Features

Tata has packed the Nexon with many tech and modern features, making it a smart SUV for today’s tech-savvy buyers.

Infotainment System

Touchscreen: The Nexon has a 7-inch (10.25-inch on higher trims) touchscreen infotainment system with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay.
Harman Sound System: The 8-speaker Harman sound system is a treat for music lovers, delivering crystal-clear audio.

Connectivity Features

IRA-Connected Car Tech: The Nexon comes with Tata’s IRA-connected car technology, which offers features like remote commands, vehicle diagnostics, and even voice commands in Hindi, English, and Hinglish.
Wireless Charging: Higher variants come with wireless charging, which is super convenient.
Rear AC Vents & Fast-Charging USB Ports: For rear passengers, comfort and convenience are well taken care of.

Standard Safety Features

6 Airbags
ABS with EBD
Corner Stability Control
Rear Parking Sensors
Advanced Safety Features (Higher Variants)
Electronic Stability Program (ESP)
Traction Control
Hill Hold Control
Rear Parking Camera with Dynamic Guidelines

The Nexon’s high-strength steel body and solid build quality make it feel like a tank on wheels. Tata has set a benchmark in safety with this SUV, which gives buyers a lot of peace of mind.

The Bottom Line

The Tata Nexon is more than just a compact SUV; it’s a complete package. Whether it’s the bold design, comfortable interiors, peppy performance, or top-notch safety features, the Nexon ticks all the right boxes. The Nexon is a solid choice for those looking for a value-for-money SUV that doesn’t compromise on safety and style. It caters to a wide audience—from city commuters to highway cruisers—and offers something for everyone.

So, if you’re in the market for a compact SUV, the Tata Nexon deserves a spot at the top of your list. It’s not just an SUV; it’s a statement.
